The Fiji Police Force is urging vehicle owners to avoid leaving their cars unattended with the keys in the ignition. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, made this appeal following two incidents where suspects stole vehicles after discovering the keys left inside.
ACP Driu emphasized that opportunistic criminals exploit such situations and encouraged vehicle owners to take proper precautions to secure their vehicles at all times. He highlighted that these criminals show no regard for individuals when they intend to commit a crime, which extends to families who may be present in the vehicle.
He also mentioned that upon receiving a report of a stolen vehicle, police will set up checkpoints to prevent the vehicle from being used in further criminal activities.
