Fiji Police Warn Against Laser Lights Targeting Aircraft

The Fiji Police Force is once again urging the public to cease the hazardous practice of pointing laser lights at aircraft, emphasizing that such actions jeopardize the safety of everyone on board. Reports from tower operators in Nadi and Nausori indicate a troubling trend of laser lights being directed at incoming aircraft during descent, despite previous warnings.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, has reiterated the serious risks posed by this reckless behavior, which can distract or temporarily blind pilots, significantly impacting critical flight operations. He has called on anyone with information regarding individuals engaging in this illegal activity to come forward, urging the public to report such incidents by contacting their nearest police station, calling 917, or reaching out to Crimestoppers at 919.

This ongoing issue has been a point of concern for the Fiji Police Force and civil aviation officials, who stress the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in maintaining flight safety. The police’s proactive stance is aimed at discouraging dangerous behavior and ensuring the safety of passengers and crew alike, bringing hope for a safer aviation environment in Fiji.
