The Fiji Police Force has reiterated its dedication to its responsibilities outlined in the Counter Narcotics Strategy, emphasizing efforts in both reactive and proactive policing.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu addressed concerns regarding claims of police inaction in tackling the illegal drug trade. He stated, “We are making arrests almost on a daily basis, which reflects our ongoing efforts, and each arrest and seizure contributes to our overall reduction objectives.”

ACP Driu assured that all information received is thoroughly assessed and acted on promptly. He explained that the complexity of drug operations means some cases take longer to resolve, as the primary goal is to ensure successful prosecution. Several specialized units, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, FPF K9 Unit, and Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, support divisional operational efforts.

In addition to enforcement, the police are actively engaging with various community sectors through community policing initiatives. “The community plays a significant role, and we have observed a notable shift towards collaboration with law enforcement, as evidenced by the increasing number of invitations for community awareness events,” he said.

Driu encouraged community members to connect with their Crime Prevention Committees (CPC) and Neighbourhood Watch Zones through their respective Divisional Manager Community Policing (DMCP).
