The Fiji Police Force has reiterated its dedication to its responsibilities outlined in the Counter Narcotics Strategy, focusing on both the reactive and proactive aspects of law enforcement to combat drug supply.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu addressed concerns regarding allegations of police inaction in arresting individuals involved in the illegal drug trade. He highlighted that police make arrests nearly every day, demonstrating their ongoing efforts, with each arrest and seizure contributing to the overall goal of reducing drug-related issues.

ACP Driu emphasized that all information received by the police is thoroughly evaluated and acted upon accordingly. He noted that the complexity of drug operations can result in varying timelines for execution, as the primary goal is to ensure successful prosecutions. Multiple units, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, FPF K9 Unit, and Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, support divisional operational efforts.

In addition to enforcement actions, police officers are actively engaging with various community sectors through community policing initiatives. ACP Driu pointed out the significant role of the community in addressing drug issues, reporting a noticeable increase in willingness to collaborate with law enforcement by sharing information and actively seeking to empower communities through awareness campaigns.

He urged community members to connect with their local Crime Prevention Committees (CPC) and Neighbourhood Watch Zones, facilitated by their respective Divisional Manager for Community Policing (DMCP).
