The Fiji Police Force is advising residents to prioritize their safety and security during the Diwali celebrations. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted that individuals often neglect these aspects amidst the joy and festivities associated with the Festival of Lights.

“As we celebrate Diwali, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant against any potential safety and security threats,” stated ACP Driu. He noted that criminal elements may take advantage of the celebratory atmosphere, which can lead to lapses in safety awareness during family gatherings and community events.

The Police aim for celebrations to be incident-free but emphasized that collaboration from the public is essential. “Your safety and security begin with you. The choices you make are your first line of defense against threats to your personal safety and property,” he explained.

ACP Driu warned against complacency, urging the community to stay alert as it opens opportunities for criminals to exploit. He reiterated the importance of being proactive about safety and security during this joyous time.
