The Fiji Police Force is strongly advising residents in flood-prone areas of the Western Division to quickly relocate to higher ground. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that persistent rainfall has already resulted in flooding across certain regions since early this morning.
For safety, ACP Driu urged individuals to move to elevated areas or evacuation centers as a precautionary measure. He mentioned that police teams are ready at local stations to provide assistance in the relocation process.
“It’s essential for people to act now, before nightfall, as traveling after dark can pose significant dangers for both residents and emergency responders,” emphasized ACP Driu. He reiterated the police’s primary focus on protecting life and property during these emergencies.
For those in need, the Western Division Command and Coordination Center can be reached at 9905457 for assistance in evacuating to safer locations.
This proactive response by the police highlights their commitment to ensuring community safety during adverse weather conditions. By encouraging timely action, individuals can significantly enhance their safety and well-being. The cooperation between the police and the community is crucial during such crises, and reaching out for help demonstrates a collective effort to navigate these challenges together.
