The Fiji Police Force is advising small boat operators to be cautious about the weather conditions before heading out to sea. This warning comes after an incident where police in Navua responded to a distress call yesterday afternoon, following a large wave that overturned a fiberglass boat carrying two individuals near the Navua passage.
Officers from the Navua Police Station were sent out on the FB Navua to carry out search and rescue operations, successfully rescuing the boat’s captain and a 17-year-old boy. The capsized vessel was also retrieved and returned to the captain after the two were treated at Navua Hospital.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident. He urged small boat operators to closely monitor weather updates and make informed decisions, always prioritizing safety.
