The Fiji Police Force is emphasizing the importance of responsible behavior as the public prepares to celebrate the New Year. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, noted a positive trend in community attitudes, specifically in support of efforts to mitigate alcohol-related offenses.

To ensure a secure atmosphere during celebrations, police officials have been thoroughly briefed about New Year operations. Vusonilawe confirmed that there have already been arrests for offenses such as consuming alcohol in public spaces and engaging in disorderly conduct. These enforcement measures will remain active as festivities are expected to continue well into the new year throughout the country.

Furthermore, Vusonilawe indicated that community policing officers are actively collaborating with local leaders, particularly in rural regions, to tackle issues surrounding the illegal sale of alcohol. Concerns over bootlegging in villages and remote areas have surfaced, leading law enforcement to encourage the public to report such activities.

The Assistant Commissioner also stressed the critical role of personal responsibility when it comes to alcohol consumption, urging individuals to make wise choices that not only safeguard their well-being but also that of their families and loved ones. The public is invited to report instances of illegal liquor sales directly to him at the number 9904 905.

As the New Year festivities approach, the police’s proactive measures reflect a community-oriented approach to keeping celebrations safe and enjoyable for all.
