Fiji Police Urge Caution for Small Boat Operators After Capsizing Incident

The Fiji Police Force is urging small boat operators to stay vigilant regarding weather conditions before heading out to sea. This advisory comes after an incident in which the Navua Police responded to a distress call on Thursday afternoon. A fiberglass boat carrying two individuals capsized in the waters near the Navua passage due to a large wave.

Officers from the Navua Police Station were dispatched aboard the FB Navua to conduct search and rescue operations. They successfully rescued both the boat’s captain and a 17-year-old boy. The capsized vessel was later retrieved and returned to the captain after both individuals received medical attention at Navua Hospital.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, expressed relief that no lives were lost in the incident. He emphasized the importance of small boat operators closely monitoring weather updates and making safety their top priority when deciding to go out to sea.
