Effective March 1, all police officers in Fiji are mandated to participate in a new spiritual enhancement program, as directed by Senior Superintendent of Police Kasiano Vusonilawe. This initiative is designed to promote personal and ethical development within the police force, encouraging officers to engage in practices that uplift the organization’s image through March 21.

SSP Vusonilawe emphasized that the program aims to improve work performance by nurturing a sense of purpose, resilience, and better interpersonal relationships among officers. Participants are required to abstain from kava, alcohol, and cigarettes and to partake in daily prayer sessions at noon, focusing on essential community policing strategies. These strategies include the construction of a new police headquarters, efforts to restore public trust, drug elimination initiatives, and fostering unity within local religious organizations.

This program is part of the Fiji Police Force’s broader strategy to enhance integrity and accountability, especially in light of past misconduct and corruption issues. It reflects ongoing police reform efforts aimed at rebuilding public confidence in law enforcement, a sentiment that aligns with recent initiatives stressing leadership accountability and community engagement.

The introduction of this spiritual enhancement program symbolizes a positive shift towards a police force committed not only to fulfilling its duties effectively but also to actively mending and strengthening its relationship with the community it serves. As the Fijian police embrace this approach, there is hope for developing a more responsive and community-oriented model of law enforcement.
