The Fiji Police Force is actively working on integrating a special unit for cold cases, confirmed by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. This dedicated team will take responsibility for all unresolved investigations, compiling progress reports and determining effective strategies for reopening long-standing cases.

Tudravu emphasized that the work ahead will be challenging due to the extensive number of reports and national cases that require attention. “You expect the result of that to be coming out soon, once they start off looking into the files away from the last five, 10 years,” he stated, highlighting the importance of patience as the unit begins its investigations.

In alignment with this initiative, the Fiji Police Force recently announced plans to recruit seasoned former officers to bolster investigative efforts. These experienced personnel will assist current investigators in resolving complex cases, including missing persons and other unresolved cases. This strategy is reflective of a broader commitment to enhance law enforcement’s operational capabilities, and it has the potential to rebuild community trust in the Fiji Police.

The proactive measures being introduced are not only aimed at clearing old cases but are also intended to uplift overall public safety. By leveraging the expertise of retired officers, the police force hopes to accelerate the resolution of investigations, reassure citizens, and signify a promising future for policing in Fiji. This organized approach embodies a hopeful commitment to justice, emphasizing community safety and facilitating a more effective, trustworthy police force.
