The Fiji Police Force has made significant strides in their ongoing campaign against drug cultivation, uncovering over 31,000 marijuana plants during Operation Sasamaki in the Ono district of Kadavu Island. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu noted that investigators are actively working to identify the owners of the farms linked to this substantial haul.
The operation has generated a series of successful raids across various farms, with officers maintaining high morale as they unite to disrupt and dismantle illicit drug networks. In a separate raid, a 19-year-old individual was apprehended after nearly 4,000 marijuana plants were discovered on a farm in the Tikina of Yale.
Tudravu highlighted that the police’s determined efforts are not limited to Kadavu, as operations have also targeted inter-island vessels in Suva, where illicit substances were detected. In addition, arrests have been made at snap roadblocks across the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Divisions for offenses relating to both marijuana and other illicit drugs.
The Commissioner is advocating for greater community support, emphasizing that law enforcement’s zero-tolerance approach will address the cultivation and trade of drugs. Tshe cohesion between police forces and community members is seen as vital in implementing effective actions against drug-related crime, offering hope for a safer future for Fiji.
This ongoing commitment reflects a strong focus on public safety and the community’s role in supporting law enforcement efforts. With successful operations like these, there is optimism that Fiji will continue to see reduced drug cultivation and trafficking activities, paving the way for healthier communities.
