Eight police officers in Fiji are under investigation due to alleged involvement in drug-related activities, leading the Fiji Police Force to confiscate their phones for digital forensic examination. Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has confirmed that the Criminal Investigations Department carried out a thorough review of social media posts that purportedly linked the officers to an individual involved in the drug trade.
The Commissioner emphasized the seriousness of these allegations, stating that the force would pursue all avenues to verify the claims made against the officers. As part of the investigation, authorities have reached out to the person who shared the incriminating social media screenshots, and efforts are underway to obtain her formal statement.
In a bid to ensure a comprehensive investigation, the Fiji Police Force has enlisted the support of the Australian Federal Police and New Zealand Police. This collaboration is expected to enhance the investigative process. Commissioner Tudravu has further instructed investigators to prioritize the case, with plans to provide regular updates to the public. This commitment to transparency is aimed at maintaining community trust in the police force during this sensitive investigation.
