The Fiji Police Boxing Team has emerged as the overall champions of the Vodafone Sukuna Bowl Boxing Challenge held today at the LICI Courts in Laucala Bay. Demonstrating exceptional skill and determination, the Police team secured victories in five out of the nine final categories.
Notably, Petero Vunivalu showcased his prowess by winning the gold medal in the 60-63kg division after defeating Emosi Vucago. He continued his success by claiming another gold in the 63.5-67kg category, decisively beating Meli Cabebula from the Army by unanimous points decision.
The Police continued their winning streak in the 67-71kg division, where Josaia Veiqaravi showcased his strength against Isikeli Rogoyawa from the Army. Additionally, Vilimoni Naivaluwaqa delivered an impressive performance, securing a knockout victory over Meli Naumi of the Army in the same weight class. Victor Rova rounded out the Police team’s triumph by winning his match against fellow officer Nemani Tuinalolo by points decision.
On the other hand, the Army claimed gold in the 57-60kg division through Keleto Tawake, who triumphed over Rusiate Qalo. Aminiasi Saratibau also added to the Army’s tally by winning the 75-80kg weight category against Naibuka Kumuiwalu. The Army’s Samuela Naqiri secured gold in the 80-86kg category after defeating fellow soldier Vilimoni Drotini. The Army concluded the night successfully with Sakiusa Narara defeating Solomoni Tikoisuva of the Police.
This year’s challenge highlighted the talent and determination of both the Police and Army boxing teams. The intense competition reflects the growing interest and dedication to boxing in Fiji.
