The Fiji Police Boxing Team emerged victorious at the Vodafone Sukuna Bowl Boxing Challenge held at LICI Courts in Laucala Bay, securing the title after winning five out of nine final bouts.
Leading the charge, Petero Vunivalu showcased his talent by claiming gold in the 60-63kg division after defeating Emosi Vucago. He also excelled in the 63.5-67kg category, obtaining another gold medal against Meli Cabebula from the Army through a unanimous decision.
The Police continued their success in the 67-71kg division, where Josaia Veiqaravi demonstrated his prowess by defeating Isikeli Rogoyawa of the Army. Additionally, Vilimoni Naivaluwaqa made a notable impact by knocking out Army’s Meli Naumi in the same weight class. Victor Rova added to the team’s success with a points decision victory over his Police colleague Nemani Tuinalolo, marking their fifth gold medal.
Meanwhile, the Army team also enjoyed some wins, with Keleto Tawake securing gold in the 57-60kg class against fellow soldier Rusiate Qalo. Aminiasi Saratibau was another star for the Army, clinching gold in the 75-80kg category by outpointing Naibuka Kumuiwalu. The Army team also showcased its strength in the 80-86kg weight class, where Samuela Naqiri triumphed over Vilimoni Drotini. They capped off the event by winning the final bout, as Sakiusa Narara defeated Solomoni Tikoisuva from the Police.
This boxing challenge not only highlights the competitive spirit between the Police and the Army but also celebrates the talent emerging in Fiji’s boxing scene, fostering a sense of camaraderie and healthy rivalry.
