The Fiji Police Operation Headquarters launched a two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This initiative involved various units within the Operations Unit, including the Traffic, K-9, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and the Fiji Police Band.
During the operations, the Traffic and K-9 Units performed random vehicle checks, while Crime Stoppers engaged with high schools participating in their Scholastic Program. The Tourist Police made visits to hotels along the main roads, and the Water Police collaborated with Community Policing to raise awareness in local communities. Additionally, the Fiji Police Band, along with a dance band, entertained crowds at select locations.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe, the Director of Operations for the Fiji Police Force, noted that the sudden nature of the exercise took many by surprise. He reported that several stopped vehicles were found to have expired wheel taxes, some were overloaded with passengers, and a few individuals were apprehended for possessing drugs identified by the K-9 units.
SSP Kasiano emphasized that this initiative was not only about enforcement but also an opportunity to engage with stakeholders and discuss daily challenges. He reiterated the importance of community awareness regarding safety and adherence to laws, particularly as the festive season approaches.
