The Fiji Police Operation Headquarters recently conducted a two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, with activities stretching from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This comprehensive exercise involved various units from the Operations Unit, including the Traffic Unit, K-9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and even the Fiji Police Band.
During the operation, the Traffic and K-9 units performed random vehicle checks. Meanwhile, Crime Stoppers engaged with local high schools as part of their Scholastic Program, and the Tourist Police connected with hotels situated along key roads. The Water Police partnered with Community Policing to raise awareness within communities, and the Police Band entertained at select locations.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe, this unexpected operation took many individuals by surprise. He reported that numerous vehicles were found with expired wheel taxes, issues with passenger overloading, and some were flagged for drug possession detected by their K-9 units.
SSP Vusonilawe emphasized that this initiative also served as a chance for the police to interact with various stakeholders to discuss daily challenges. He reassured the public that these awareness exercises would persist as part of their commitment to encourage compliance with the law, particularly as the community prepares for the upcoming festive season.
This operation not only highlights the proactive measures being taken by the Fiji Police to ensure public safety but also demonstrates their dedication to community engagement and awareness. It’s a hopeful reminder for residents to adhere to the rules and maintain a safe environment as they approach a time filled with celebrations and gatherings.
