Fiji Police conducted drug raids on farms in Lau, Savusavu, and Ovalau within the last 24 hours, leading to the seizure of suspected marijuana plants.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, indicated that these operations are part of a divisional strategy aimed at disrupting the illegal drug supply chain, focusing on both cultivators and distributors.
In Mavana, Vanuabalavu, Lau, a farm containing marijuana plants was discovered. On Ovalau, law enforcement authorities seized over 300 marijuana plants, along with groceries that were allegedly stolen from a school canteen. A man has been taken into custody related to this incident.
In the Northern Division, officers from Serious and Organised Crime and Crime Intelligence conducted a raid near Lea village, resulting in the seizure of more than 600 marijuana plants, along with dried branches and seedlings. A 20-year-old farmer was arrested during this raid.
Additionally, in the Southern Division, a raid carried out by the Serious Organised Crime Unit and a task force in Tacirua led to the confiscation of dried branches and small plastic bags containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. A 43-year-old man was also taken into custody during this operation.
All substances seized are currently undergoing analysis.
