The Fiji Police Force has made a remarkable breakthrough in their efforts to combat drug cultivation, discovering 31,000 marijuana plants in the tikina of Ono as part of their Operation Sasamaki. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu stated that investigators are diligently working to identify the owner of the extensive farm, which is part of a series of successful actions taken to seize marijuana across various locales.
In another operation, a 19-year-old individual was arrested for harboring nearly 4,000 marijuana plants on a different farm in the tikina of Yale. Commissioner Tudravu noted the high spirits among the officers involved in Operation Sasamaki, highlighting their unwavering commitment to disrupting, destabilizing, and dismantling networks of illicit drugs.
Despite facing obstacles in difficult and rugged terrains, the police have demonstrated relentless determination in their campaign. Commissioner Tudravu conveyed reassurance to the public, stating, “We will not stop as we are committed to seeing this through for the sake of our children, grandchildren, and future generation.” This initiative is bolstered by ongoing scrutiny and community engagement, reinforcing the police’s commitment to combatting all forms of illegal drugs.
These recent actions are part of a comprehensive crackdown on drug cultivation in Fiji which has seen significant results. In early March, nearly three tonnes of marijuana were seized, accompanied by multiple arrests, including that of a village chief.
