Two individuals were apprehended this morning on drug-related charges following a collaborative operation between the Fiji Police and the Fiji Dog Detector Unit (FDDU). The raid took place in Wailea, Vatuwaqa, at approximately 2 am, where law enforcement officials discovered 10 dried branches suspected to be marijuana in the possession of the suspects.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, commended the efforts of his team, stating, “With the assistance of our K-9 capabilities from the FDDU, the team managed to locate the said drugs without much trouble.” This successful operation reflects the effectiveness of utilizing trained K-9 units in combating drug-related offenses.
ACP Driu emphasized that the police will maintain vigilance by continuing to conduct drug raids and inspections at checkpoints, particularly targeting individuals loitering during late-night hours. Currently, the arrested men remain in police custody as authorities pursue further investigation into the incident.
This focused approach by the police is a positive indication of their commitment to maintaining community safety and addressing drug-related issues in Fiji. Such proactive measures can help deter future criminal activity and foster a safer environment for residents.
