The Fiji Police Force has reported significant progress in their fight against drug cultivation, following two successful raids in the Malua range of Navosa. Officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) seized over 2,000 plants suspected to be marijuana during these operations.
The initiative stemmed from credible information regarding the illicit cultivation of marijuana, prompting a dedicated team to navigate the challenging terrain to locate the farms. After spending the night in the highlands, the team uncovered over 1,800 marijuana plants at one site and more than 900 at another. The plants varied in height, ranging from 10 centimeters to 2.5 meters.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted the importance of these raids in disrupting the drug supply chain and targeting those involved in its cultivation and distribution. He noted a string of recent arrests, with several suspects charged and brought before the courts. ACP Driu praised the collaboration and information-sharing that enabled these critical discoveries and arrests in previous operations.
This concerted effort by law enforcement not only aims to curb illegal drug activities but also positively impacts community safety and health, offering hope for improved well-being in the region. The police’s ongoing commitment to tackling organized crime reflects a proactive approach to creating a safer Fiji for all citizens.
