The Fiji Police Force is making significant strides to resolve longstanding cold cases, exemplifying its commitment to justice and community safety. In an innovative approach, the Fiji Police has announced that it will recall experienced former officers, aged between 55 and 60, to form a specialized task force dedicated to tackling unresolved investigations. This initiative was shared by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu, who emphasized the critical need to bring in the seasoned expertise of these retired officers.
The establishment of the task force aims to expedite the resolution of complex cases involving murder, drug offenses, theft, and more. Tudravu noted, “We will rope in ex-police officers, get their experience, verification is currently underway, and they will commence investigations on cases specified as cold, along with other areas of interest.”
In light of rising crime statistics, with notable increases reported in recent months, the Fiji Police Force is taking a multidimensional approach to improve operational efficiency. This aligns with earlier initiatives shared by Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua, who highlighted the strategic deployment of resources to address high-risk areas known as “red spots” and the integration of new technological solutions such as CCTV systems.
