As Christmas approaches in Fiji, the Police have intensified their night-time operations to ensure community safety and deter crime during the festive season. These efforts are particularly focused on youth loitering and conducting vehicle checks.

The Police have implemented stop-and-search operations and actively engaged young individuals found congregating in public spaces late at night. This initiative comes as public movement typically increases during the holidays, with the goal of preventing opportunistic crimes such as theft, assault, and alcohol-related incidents.

Authorities have extended their gratitude to the community, especially to young people and their families, for their cooperation during these operations. They encouraged public vigilance, urging citizens to report any suspicious activity by calling Crimestoppers at 919 or the National Command Centre at 9905296.

The Police emphasized that their approach is focused on prevention rather than punishment. Officers are dedicated to advising young people to return home safely while collaborating with local communities to mitigate risks associated with increased holiday activity. This proactive strategy aims to foster a safer environment for everyone as they celebrate the festive season.
