The Fiji Police Force has reiterated its dedication to its responsibilities outlined in the Counter Narcotics Strategy, focusing on supply reduction through both reactive and proactive policing methods.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu made this statement in response to concerns regarding alleged police inaction in apprehending individuals involved in drug trafficking. He emphasized that arrests are being made nearly every day, highlighting the effectiveness of ongoing efforts in this initiative. Each arrest and seizure plays a crucial role in the overall reduction of drug-related activities.

ACP Driu noted that all information received by the police is thoroughly evaluated and addressed in due time. He acknowledged that the nature of drug operations can vary significantly, often requiring extended timeframes to ensure successful prosecutions. Several specialized units, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, FPF K9 Unit, and Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, support the divisional operational activities.

In addition to enforcement actions, police officers are actively engaging various sectors of the community through proactive community policing initiatives. ACP Driu stressed the importance of community involvement, stating that there has been a notable increase in willingness to collaborate with law enforcement, as evidenced by numerous invitations for community awareness activities.

He encouraged community members to connect with their local Crime Prevention Committees (CPC) and Neighbourhood Watch Zones, coordinated through their respective Divisional Manager for Community Policing (DMCP).
