Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has reaffirmed the Fiji Police Force’s dedication to conducting a comprehensive, impartial, and evidence-driven investigation into the recently circulated Viber messages that have captured significant attention on social media. These messages purportedly include discussions between senior officers and individuals associated with drug-related activities, resulting in heightened public concern. However, Tudravu cautioned that the authenticity of these claims has yet to be verified.
In light of new allegations concerning a senior officer, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of continuing the investigation to ascertain the source, context, and legitimacy of the leaked messages. He pointed out that the circulating names and accusations only represent a fragment of the full narrative, and investigators will prioritize factual evidence over speculation.
“It’s a challenging task. We intend to untangle the existing networks and follow their connections. This requires both human intellect and technological support in order to resolve and clarify the situation,” Tudravu stated.
Additionally, he confirmed that investigators would be seeking a statement from Alexandra Forwood, which will help assess the depth of information she is willing to share. Tudravu reiterated that all officers mentioned in the purported exchanges will maintain their regular duties, underscoring that no measures will be taken unless credible and corroborated evidence substantiates the claims made in the leaked messages.
The commitment shown by the Fiji Police Force indicates a proactive approach in addressing public concerns while ensuring a fair and thorough investigation. This diligence also serves to uphold the integrity of the police force during such tumultuous times.
