The Fiji Police Force has initiated preliminary investigations regarding the alleged unauthorized issuance of passports to children tied to individuals connected with the Grace Road group. Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew confirmed that the direction of the investigation will depend on the guidance of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka after further discussions.

This development follows the resignation of Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua, who stepped down to ensure an impartial inquiry into the situation. Tikoduadua stated that the passports in question were issued without his knowledge or the consent of senior officials within the Department of Immigration.

Commissioner Chew indicated that the preliminary investigation will assess whether the Fiji Police Force or the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) will take the lead on the investigation.

This situation underscores a commitment to transparency and accountability within the Fijian government, as officials seek to address the serious allegations swiftly and thoroughly. The outcome of this investigation may reinforce public trust in the governmental institutions involved, showcasing a dedication to upholding integrity in public service.

In summary, the ongoing investigations highlight a proactive stance towards addressing potential misconduct, reflecting a hopeful outlook for more accountable governance in Fiji.
