The Fiji Police Force held a dedication service at the Suva Civic Centre today, marking the beginning of the 2024 Ratu Sukuna Tournament and gearing up for operations during the festive season. This event highlighted the essential roles played by the Police and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in serving the Fijian community.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew addressed those present, stressing the significance of unity and seeking divine guidance as they prepare for the upcoming challenges. “This is a time to synchronize before a battle, just like we would before a major raid,” he mentioned, emphasizing the need for harmony among team members to achieve collective success.

He encouraged officers to concentrate on achieving success in the tournament while ensuring public safety during the festive period. The Acting Commissioner also acknowledged the support and sacrifices made by officers’ families, voicing appreciation for their vital role in facilitating effective policing.

The dedication service provided an opportunity to honor the impactful contributions of the Police and RFMF in promoting the welfare of Fijian communities, showcasing the commitment of both forces to their mission of serving and protecting the nation. Additionally, support from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) was recognized, with attendance from AFP Senior Pacific Liaison Officer Superintendent Adrian Morton and Detective Inspector Paul Everingham.

At the event, sporting kits for all tournament teams were presented and blessed by Force Chaplain Assistant Superintendent of Police Joeli Mawi. The 2024 Ratu Sukuna Tournament is set to commence today, featuring boxing events followed by the highly anticipated rugby match on Saturday, November 9, between the Shop & Save Police Blues and the RFMF at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The solid collaboration among the police, military, and community illustrates a hopeful and united front as they face upcoming events, blending sportsmanship with public service.
