Two police officers from Savusavu have been formally charged with rape after an investigation into allegations of sexual assault against a minor. These charges were instituted following a thorough inquiry conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), which was reviewed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for legal sanctioning.

The two accused officers each face one count of rape and are scheduled to appear in the Savusavu Magistrates Court today. The Fiji Police Force expressed its commitment to transparency in dealing with misconduct allegations against its personnel, ensuring that investigations are handled with care and due process.

This incident highlights ongoing issues regarding police conduct in Fiji. Previous cases of alleged misconduct have raised significant concerns about accountability within the police force. In light of these troubling allegations, Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust in law enforcement by addressing such serious matters swiftly and effectively.

The hope is that through this rigorous approach to accountability and transparency, the Fiji Police Force can begin to restore confidence within the communities it serves. Efforts to reform policing practices can pave the way for a more trustworthy relationship between law enforcement and the public, ensuring safety and integrity for all citizens.
