The Fiji Police Force is well-prepared to tackle crime during the festive season, with a budget of $30.1 million designated for operations and over 5,100 officers deployed across the country. Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua, confirmed that the force has the necessary personnel, funding, and technology to effectively address crime during this busy period.

Naivalurua stated that this significant budget allocation specifically aims to support ground operations during the holiday season. Additionally, the Fiji Police Force has enhanced its manpower through the integration of new recruits, resulting in approximately 5,136 personnel available for duty, which translates to about one officer for every 187 residents.

The operation period commenced on December 15 and will continue until January 15, 2026. In preparation for this period, all divisional police commanders have carried out operational readiness checks to ensure that officers are fully equipped with essential gear, such as handcuffs, capsicum spray, batons, and torches.

To further bolster emergency response capabilities, each police division maintains a dedicated team of 30 officers on 24-hour standby, in addition to regular station duties. The force is also utilizing 395 operational vehicles to enhance their nationwide operations. Advanced measures such as CCTV cameras have been installed in high-risk areas and are directly linked to Police Coordination and Command Centres, enhancing surveillance and response times.

Naivalurua noted the increase in police visibility throughout the country, with the establishment of checkpoints at key locations, supported by motorbike and boat patrols to monitor Fiji’s shores and assist coastal communities during the festive period. This proactive approach is expected to foster a safer environment for everyone during the holiday season.
