Thousands of police officers took to the streets in Fiji as part of a robust “all hands-on deck” initiative to ensure safety during New Year’s Day celebrations. With the arrival of 2025 just around the corner, law enforcement ramped up their efforts across various regions, from Nausori in the Eastern Division to the extensive Korovou highway. Officers conducted continuous foot patrols and deployed mobile units to provide a secure environment for revelers.

Families enjoying sunny picnics at popular spots were met with traffic officers implementing “snap breathalyser” tests to identify and remove impaired drivers from the roads. In a focused 24-hour operation, police made multiple arrests related to drunk driving and issued many speeding tickets, underscoring the importance of road safety during the festive season.

Authorities issued a public plea for cooperation, urging citizens to make safer choices regarding road conduct. From Vunidawa to Levuka and Nakasi, police maintained a firm presence throughout the night, reinforcing their commitment to community safety.

As night operations concluded and police reported back after New Year’s Day, the enduring message to the public remained clear: “remain safe and celebrate responsibly,” as festivities for the 2026 holiday period continue. This strong law enforcement presence highlights the community’s emphasis on safety and enjoyment during celebrations, ensuring a positive atmosphere as the year kicks off.
