The Fiji Police Force has initiated robust preparations for the forthcoming general elections, focusing on providing officers with specialized training to efficiently manage the electoral process. A five-day workshop commenced at the Pearl Resort, assembling officers from various regions of the country. This training aims to prepare these officers to educate their peers, ensuring uniform and effective policing during all stages of the election.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu emphasized the timeliness and importance of this training, highlighting the role of trainers as organizational ambassadors. Tudravu stressed the need for trainers to exemplify best practices and acquire essential skills for delivering top-tier instruction.
Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa described the workshop as crucial for election preparations. The training requires police officers to thoroughly understand their duties, integrate adult learning techniques, and utilize official materials from the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) to ensure consistent and structured training. Mataiciwa acknowledged the Fiji Police Force’s role in maintaining the credibility of the electoral process, extending beyond traditional law enforcement to upholding democratic principles.
The workshop’s objective is to ensure that the instruction police officers receive will positively reflect in their conduct on Election Day, safeguarding a free, fair, and credible election environment. This initiative is part of a broader collaboration with the FEO, aiming to bolster public confidence in Fiji’s democratic processes by enhancing transparency and operational readiness.
As Fiji moves towards its future elections, including the 2026 general elections, efforts such as this workshop signal a hopeful stride towards strengthening the electoral framework, protecting democracy, and engaging citizens effectively. These proactive measures demonstrate Fiji’s dedication to upholding the integrity of its elections, ensuring every vote is cast and counted securely and confidently.
