The Fiji Police Operation Headquarters recently conducted a two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, specifically from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This extensive effort involved multiple units from the Operations Unit, including Traffic, K-9, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and even the Fiji Police Band.
During the operations, the Traffic and K-9 Units executed random checks on vehicles. Meanwhile, Crime Stoppers engaged with high schools involved in their Scholastic Program. The Tourist Police visited local hotels situated along the main thoroughfares, while the Water Police collaborated with Community Policing to raise awareness in various communities. Adding a lively touch to the operations, the Fiji Police Force marching band, along with a dance band, performed at select locations to engage and entertain the public.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe highlighted that many individuals were caught off guard by this initiative. He reported that some vehicles had expired wheel tax, were overloaded with passengers, and indicated that a number of drugs were detected during searches conducted by the K-9 teams.
SSP Kasiano noted that thisoperation provided an opportunity for the police to connect with stakeholders and address recurring issues they encounter. He emphasized that these awareness exercises will persist, serving as a reminder for the community to adhere to laws and regulations, especially as the festive season approaches.
This proactive effort by the Fiji Police demonstrates a commitment to maintaining public safety and fostering community relations. The ongoing dialogue with stakeholders and community engagement highlight the police’s dedication to creating a safer environment for all residents and visitors. It is a hopeful step towards ensuring a secure and enjoyable festive season ahead.
