The Fiji Police Operations Headquarters recently conducted a comprehensive two-day surge operation covering Viti Levu, stretching from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This initiative involved various units within the Operations Unit, including Traffic, K-9, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, and even the Fiji Police Band.
During the operation, the Traffic and K-9 units performed random vehicle checks, while the Crime Stoppers team engaged with high school students as part of their educational outreach program. In addition, the Tourist Police visited hotels along the main routes, and the Water Police collaborated with Community Policing to raise awareness within local neighborhoods.
The Fiji Police Force marching band, along with a dance band, entertained at select locations, adding a community-friendly element to the operation. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe noted that the exercise caught many by surprise, leading to the discovery of vehicles with expired wheel taxes, overloaded passenger counts, and drugs detected through K-9 inspections.
This operation served a dual purpose: enforcing the law and connecting with stakeholders to discuss daily challenges faced by the police force. SSP Vusonilawe emphasized the importance of such awareness efforts, particularly as the community approaches another festive season, encouraging everyone to adhere to laws for safety.
As the Fiji Police continue to engage with the community in proactive measures like these, it reinforces the commitment to public safety and the promotion of a secure environment for all residents and visitors. These initiatives not only help maintain law and order but also foster strong community relationships, paving the way for a safer future.
Overall, the surge operation highlights the active role law enforcement plays in enhancing community safety during busy times of the year, showcasing a collaborative approach to policing and public awareness.
