The Fiji Police Operation Headquarters conducted a comprehensive two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, spanning from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving various units within the Operations Unit, including Traffic, K-9, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and the Fiji Police Band.

During the operation, the Traffic and K9 Units conducted random inspections on vehicles, while Crime Stoppers engaged with high school students as part of their Scholastic Program. Tourist Police visited local hotels to enhance safety awareness, and the Water Police joined forces with Community Policing to educate residents on various issues.

The Fiji Police Force marching band also contributed to the operation by performing at selected locations, promoting community engagement and awareness. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe noted that this unexpected exercise surprised many and highlighted some concerning issues, such as expired wheel tax, overloading of passengers, and the detection of drugs by K9 units.

SSP Vusonilawe emphasized the importance of such awareness exercises as a reminder for the community to adhere to the law, particularly as the festive season approaches. He expressed the commitment of the police to ensure the safety of the community, fostering a cooperative and law-abiding environment.

This operation not only demonstrates the proactive approach of the Fiji Police Force in maintaining safety but also underscores the importance of community engagement and the collaboration between police and residents to address local challenges.

In summary, the surge operation reflects the police’s dedication to community safety and the ongoing efforts to uphold the law, paving the way for a secure and enjoyable festive season ahead. This collaborative spirit and awareness-raising will hopefully lead to a more informed and safer community.
