The Fiji Police Force recently conducted a two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, covering areas from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This comprehensive operation involved various units within the Operations Unit, including Traffic, K-9 and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and the Fiji Police Band.
During the operation, the Traffic and K-9 Units performed random vehicle checks, while the Crime Stoppers team visited local high schools as part of their educational initiative. The Tourist Police engaged with hotels along key routes, and the Water Police collaborated with Community Policing efforts to raise community awareness.
The Fiji Police Force marching band, accompanied by a dance band, entertained crowds at selected locations throughout the operation. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe noted that the operation surprised many, revealing issues like expired vehicle registrations, passenger overloading, and drug-related offenses detected by the K-9 teams.
SSP Vusonilawe emphasized that the initiative also served as a platform for the police to engage with stakeholders and address ongoing community concerns. He reiterated that the awareness campaign would continue to encourage adherence to laws, aiming to ensure public safety as the festive season approaches.
This proactive approach by the Fiji Police not only reinforces law enforcement but also promotes community engagement, fostering a safer environment for all citizens. As the holiday season approaches, such measures remind us of the importance of safety and compliance with regulations, allowing for a more peaceful celebration.
