The Fiji Police Operation Headquarters recently conducted a two-day surge operation across Viti Levu, spanning from Navua to Nalawa in Ra. This comprehensive initiative engaged multiple units from the Operations Unit, including Traffic, K-9, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, Water Police, Community Policing, Tourist Police, Crime Stoppers, and the Fiji Police Band.

During the operation, the Traffic and K-9 units carried out random vehicle inspections, while Crime Stoppers engaged with high schools participating in their Scholastic Program. Additionally, Tourist Police visited hotels along major thoroughfares, and the Water Police collaborated with Community Policing to enhance public awareness. The Fiji Police Force marching band and a dance band performed at select venues, contributing to the community’s festive spirit.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe highlighted that the operation took many by surprise, leading to several infractions being identified, such as vehicles with expired wheel tax, overloading, and drug-related issues uncovered by K-9 units. This operation served as a crucial opportunity for police to interact with stakeholders and address daily challenges.

SSP Kasiano emphasized the importance of ongoing awareness initiatives, stating, “We want you to be safe as we head into another year of festivities. This awareness exercise will continue as our way of reminding everyone to adhere to the laws at all times.”

This proactive approach by the Fiji Police not only enhances public safety but also fosters community engagement. By continuing these operations, they are working towards a safer environment, especially as the holiday season approaches.

In summary, the Fiji Police’s recent surge operations effectively combined law enforcement with community engagement, emphasizing safety and compliance with regulations, which is essential as the community prepares for upcoming festivities. This initiative reflects a positive step towards maintaining order and security in the region.
