The Fiji Police Force is actively investigating seven allegations that emerged from a recent Commission of Inquiry (COI) report. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu shared that four of these allegations were already under active investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) prior to the report’s publication.

Commissioner Tudravu has established a dedicated team to thoroughly address these issues, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an independent and transparent process, which will be led by senior investigators. He urged the public to have confidence in the ongoing inquiry, stressing that the integrity of the investigation is paramount.

This inquiry comes amid broader concerns regarding the appointment practices associated with former FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali. Previous articles have highlighted that the investigations are not only crucial for accountability but also essential in fostering public trust in Fiji’s governance structures. The hope within the community is that this inquiry will lead to necessary reforms, improving transparency and accountability within public institutions.

The proactive measures taken by the Fiji Police reflect a commitment to addressing past grievances and ensuring ethical governance. As the investigation unfolds, there is a collective optimism that these actions will pave the way for significant reforms, helping to restore public confidence in governmental institutions and ultimately creating a more trustworthy political landscape for Fiji.

The ongoing investigative efforts mark a pivotal moment for accountability in Fiji and present a hopeful outlook for a future defined by integrity and respect for the rule of law.
