The Fiji Police Force has initiated preliminary investigations into allegations of unauthorized passport issuances to children linked to the Grace Road group. Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, announced that the direction of the investigation will depend on further consultations with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

This development follows the resignation of Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua, who stepped down to ensure an impartial inquiry into the situation. Minister Tikoduadua stated that the issuance of these passports occurred without his knowledge or assent from senior officials within the Department of Immigration.

Chew indicated that the investigation will clarify whether the Fiji Police Force or the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) will oversee the proceedings.

This situation highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in government practices. By allowing an independent investigation, the authorities are taking steps to restore public trust and ensure that any wrongdoing is addressed appropriately.

In summary, the Fiji Police Force is looking into unauthorized passport issuance under the scrutiny of government leaders, with a significant emphasis on transparently resolving the situation and preventing future occurrences.
