The Fiji Police Force is currently looking into a serious accident that occurred on Friday involving a collision between a container trailer and a minibus with six passengers on board. The incident took place around midday near Lokuya Hill, past Verata Junction, along Kings Road, as the vehicles were heading towards Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Authorities have confirmed that both drivers, as well as the passengers in the minibus, were promptly transported to Korovou Hospital for medical attention.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, who oversees traffic safety, has emphasized the importance of vigilance among public service vehicle (PSV) drivers. He noted that this is the second incident involving PSVs within the same week, which raises concerns about the safety of passengers using these services. “Innocent passengers are becoming victims on our roads,” SSP Divuana remarked.
This incident serves as a reminder of the critical need for enhanced road safety measures and increased awareness among drivers to protect all road users.
A silver lining in this situation is the active response from the police and healthcare services, which reflects a community-focused approach to ensuring safety and health following such accidents. As the investigation continues, there is hope that measures will be taken to improve road safety and prevent future incidents, fostering a safer environment for all travelers in Fiji.
