The Fiji Police Force held a dedication service at the Suva Civic Centre today to mark the launch of the 2024 Ratu Sukuna Tournament and to prepare for operations during the festive season. The event recognized the essential services rendered by the Police and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) to the nation.
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew addressed attendees, stressing the significance of unity and divine guidance as they gear up for the forthcoming events. “This is time to synchronise before a battle, just as we would do before a major raid,” he noted, highlighting the need for everyone to be aligned for success.
He encouraged officers to focus on achieving victories in the tournament and to ensure the safety and security of the community throughout the holiday season. The Acting Commissioner also expressed appreciation for the support and sacrifices made by officers’ families, recognizing their crucial role in facilitating effective policing.
Moreover, the dedication service highlighted the partnership between the Police and the RFMF in maintaining the well-being of Fijian communities. This collaboration showcases their commitment to serve and protect the nation’s citizens.
Support from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) was also acknowledged, with AFP Senior Pacific Liaison Officer Superintendent Adrian Morton and Detective Inspector Paul Everingham present at the event.
During the ceremony, sporting kits for all tournament teams were blessed by Force Chaplain Assistant Superintendent of Police Joeli Mawi. The 2024 Ratu Sukuna Tournament kicks off today with boxing, leading to the main rugby challenge on Saturday, November 9, between the Shop & Save Police Blues and the RFMF, taking place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
This event not only emphasizes the sporting spirit but also reinforces the collaborative effort of Fiji’s law enforcement agencies to keep the nation safe and healthy, fostering a sense of community during the festive season.
