The Fiji Police Force is currently investigating a traffic accident that took place on Friday when a container trailer collided with a minibus carrying six passengers. The incident occurred around midday near Lokuya Hill, just beyond the Verata Junction, on Kings Road as it approaches Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Both drivers and all six passengers sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Korovou Hospital for medical attention. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, who leads the Traffic Division, emphasized the importance of vigilance among public service vehicle (PSV) drivers, highlighting that this incident marks the second involving PSVs within the same week. “Innocent passengers are becoming victims on our roads,” SSP Divuana stated, imploring drivers to be more cautious.
This ongoing investigation serves as a crucial reminder of the need for heightened safety standards among all drivers, particularly those operating public transportation vehicles, to protect the lives of passengers and other road users. As the police work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crash, it is hoped that such incidents will decrease in the future, promoting safer travel for everyone.
The call for increased awareness and care on the roads is a positive step towards improving overall road safety and ensuring that public transportation remains a reliable mode for the community.
