The Fiji Police Force is currently looking into an accident that took place on Friday, involving a collision between a container trailer and a minibus transporting six passengers. The incident occurred around midday near Lokuya Hill, past Verata Junction, along Kings Road while the vehicles were en route to Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Authorities reported that both drivers and all six passengers were transported to Korovou Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment following the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the director of traffic, has highlighted the need for heightened awareness among public service vehicle (PSV) drivers on the roads.
“This is the second incident this week involving PSVs, and innocent passengers are becoming victims on our roads,” SSP Divuana commented, underlining the concern for passenger safety.
As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial for all drivers, especially those operating PSVs, to exercise caution and prioritize the safety of all road users. There is hope that increased awareness and responsibility among drivers can prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring safer travel for everyone on Fiji’s roads.
In summary, while this incident raises serious concerns around road safety, it also presents an opportunity to reinforce the importance of vigilance among drivers, potentially leading to improved safety measures that can protect travelers going forward.
