The Fiji Police Force is currently conducting an investigation into a serious accident that took place around midday on Friday. The incident involved a collision between a container trailer and a minibus carrying six passengers near Lokuya Hill, past the Verata Junction on Kings Road, en route to Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Authorities have confirmed that both drivers, along with all six passengers, were promptly transported to Korovou Hospital for medical attention following the crash.
In light of this unfortunate event, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, who oversees the Traffic Division, has reached out to public service vehicle (PSV) drivers, urging them to exercise heightened vigilance while on the road. SSP Divuana remarked, “This is the second incident this week involving PSVs, and innocent passengers are becoming victims on our roads,” emphasizing the concerning trend.
As the investigation unfolds, it serves as a critical reminder of the importance of road safety, especially regarding the conduct of drivers in charge of public transportation. It is hoped that these unfortunate incidents will lead to improved awareness and practices that enhance the safety of passengers and all road users.
In conclusion, while the situation is severe, the ongoing investigation and calls for increased safety measures may pave the way for more responsible driving practices in the future.
