The Fiji Police Force has conducted a series of farm raids in Lau, Savusavu, and Ovalau, leading to the seizure of plants suspected to be marijuana over the past 24 hours. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, stated that these operations align with the divisional strategy aimed at disrupting the illicit drug supply chain by targeting growers and distributors.
In Mavana, Vanuabalavu, Lau, officers unearthed a farm cultivating plants believed to be marijuana. On Ovalau, authorities confiscated over 300 marijuana plants and also uncovered groceries that are thought to have been stolen from a school canteen. A suspect has been taken into custody related to these findings.
In the Northern region, ACP Driu noted that a collaborative raid conducted by the Serious and Organised Crime and Intelligence units in Savusavu resulted in the seizure of over 600 marijuana plants, dried branches, and seedlings near Lea Village. A 20-year-old farmer was arrested during this operation.
Meanwhile, in the Southern Division, a raid by the Serious Organised Crime Unit and task force in Tacirua led to the discovery of dried branches and small packages containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. A 43-year-old man has been apprehended in relation to this case.
All substances collected in the raids have been forwarded for analysis.
