The Fiji Police Force reports that recent snap checks have been effective in capturing illegal substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, noted that at a checkpoint on Bagasau road, officers from the Tukavesi Police Station discovered a black bag in a bus’s luggage compartment containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

In a separate operation on Sabeto Road, additional branches of dried leaves believed to be marijuana were confiscated, leading to the arrest of two individuals in the vehicle.

Furthermore, during a search by the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU), a 35-year-old man from Navua was found with several sachets of a white substance suspected to be methamphetamine, alongside dried branches thought to be marijuana. Another man from the same area was arrested shortly after for possessing more dried branches also believed to be marijuana.

Additionally, a thorough raid in Raiwai by the SD SOCIU, K9, and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit led to the detention of two men and a woman. Authorities found white substances, suspected methamphetamine, alongside several items thought to be stolen and both foreign and local currency.

All confiscated substances are currently undergoing analysis, and law enforcement officials plan to continue joint raids across all five policing divisions.

The proactive approach of the Fiji Police represents a significant commitment to tackling the issue of substance abuse and maintaining community safety. The ongoing operations not only aim to curb illegal drug activities but also to deter future offenses, fostering a safer environment for the residents of Fiji.
