The Fiji Police Force has reiterated its dedication to its role in the Counter Narcotics Strategy aimed at reducing supply through both proactive and reactive policing methods.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu made this statement in response to concerns regarding alleged inaction by police in dealing with those engaged in the illegal drug trade.

Driu highlighted that arrests are being made nearly every day, indicating the ongoing efforts of the force, and that each arrest and seizure contributes to overall reduction efforts. He emphasized that all information received by the police is thoroughly evaluated and acted upon in a timely manner.

He acknowledged that the nature of drug operations can vary, with some requiring more time to execute to ensure a successful prosecution. Several units, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, FPF K9 Unit, and Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, support the divisional operational efforts.

In addition to enforcement, the police are actively working to engage various sectors of the community through community policing initiatives. Driu pointed out the significant role that the community plays and noted a marked improvement in collaboration with law enforcement, evidenced by the increasing number of invitations for community awareness initiatives.

He urged community members to connect with their Crime Prevention Committees (CPC) and Neighbourhood Watch Zones via their Divisional Manager Community Policing (DMCP).
