The Fiji Police Force has reiterated its dedication to its responsibilities outlined in the Counter Narcotics Strategy, focusing on supply reduction through both reactive and proactive policing measures.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu addressed concerns regarding claims of police inaction in apprehending individuals involved in the illegal drug trade. He emphasized that arrests are being made almost daily, highlighting that these actions are part of their continuous efforts to combat drug trafficking and contribute to overall reduction initiatives.

According to ACP Driu, all information pertaining to drug operations is meticulously evaluated and acted upon. He noted that the complexity of some drug operations may extend the time required for execution, as the primary goal is to ensure a successful prosecution. Various units, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, FPF K9 Unit, and Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, support the divisional operations.

In addition to enforcement actions, the police are actively working to engage with various sectors of the community through proactive community policing efforts. Driu underscored the significant role the community plays, observing a notable increase in cooperation with law enforcement in sharing information and expressing a desire to empower communities, as evidenced by numerous invitations for community awareness activities.

He also encouraged community members to connect with their Crime Prevention Committees (CPC) and Neighbourhood Watch Zones through their respective Divisional Manager Community Policing (DMCP).
