The Fiji Police Force held a remembrance event this weekend to honor the lives of twenty-six members who passed away over the past year. The ceremonies took place in Suva, Labasa, and Lautoka, with families of fallen officers from the Central, Eastern, Southern, and Headquarters Divisions gathering at the Nasova Police grounds to pay tribute to their service.
The Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, presided over the 2024 Remembrance Day for the four policing divisions. He expressed that returning to the site where many began their careers was a heartfelt occasion. “We gather today to remember our comrades who have left us and to celebrate their memories that will endure forever,” he stated.
In his tribute to the families of the deceased officers, the Acting Commissioner thanked them for their sacrifices and support. “We appreciate the precious time you shared with them, which can never be reclaimed. While we, as police officers, signed up for this duty, it is important to acknowledge that it is not a commitment you, our families, made.”
As the Fiji Police Force approaches its 150th Anniversary celebration, the Acting Commissioner remarked on the significance of the milestone, set for October 10, 2024. He noted the various historical phases that have shaped the organization, stressing the need to focus on the present and the evolving criminal landscape. “While we can learn from the past, we must commit to improving our service today,” he emphasized.
During the ceremony at Nasova, special recognition was given to eighteen members who lost their lives in the previous year.
