The Fiji Police Force gathered at the Suva Civic Center to participate in a dedication service in preparation for the 2024 Ratu Sukuna Tournament and upcoming festive season operations. Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew emphasized the importance of unity and seeking divine guidance as they ready themselves for these significant events.
Commissioner Chew noted that this gathering is akin to preparing for a major operation, stating, “This is a time to synchronize before a battle just as we would do before a major raid. To come together so that everyone is on the same winning frequency.” He stressed that success in the tournament should mirror the focus on ensuring safety during the festive season.
He extended best wishes to all teams and expressed gratitude toward their families for their support and sacrifices. The Fiji Police Force also acknowledged the logistical assistance from the Australian Federal Police in relation to their #88blues campaign.
In attendance were AFP Senior Pacific Liaison Officer Superintendent Adrian Morton and Detective Inspector Paul Everingham, who participated in the dedication service alongside FPF members. The event included the blessing and handover of sporting kits for all participating teams by the Force Chaplain, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joeli Mawi.
The 2024 Ratu Sukuna tournament is set to commence on Tuesday with the Boxing competition, with the highlight being the main rugby match between the Shop & Save Police Blues and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces scheduled for Saturday, November 9th, at HFC Stadium in Suva.
This gathering not only showcases the commitment of the Fiji Police Force toward community engagement and sporting excellence but also reinforces the values of teamwork and collaboration, which are essential both on and off the field.
As we approach these events, there is a hopeful anticipation that they will foster a spirit of camaraderie among participants and promote safety throughout the festive season.
