The Fiji Police Forensic Sciences Services has been significantly upgraded with new technology, thanks to ongoing support from the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Last week, Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy, the AFP Senior Officer in Suva, handed over new computers to the Fiji Police Force.

Senior Superintendent of Police Margaret Marshall, the Director of Forensics, received the equipment, emphasizing that advanced technology is vital for improving photographic evidence in investigations. She expressed her gratitude toward the AFP for its steadfast partnership, which enhances not only Fiji’s forensic capabilities but also contributes to regional policing initiatives under the Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI).

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu also acknowledged the AFP’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement collaboration across the Pacific. This upgrade complements the existing agreements between Fiji and Australia focused on enhancing law enforcement capabilities, including the establishment of a Regional Centre of Excellence for operational field forensics in Fiji.

This development aligns with previous initiatives aimed at integrating modern technologies and specialized training into Fiji’s policing framework, addressing complex challenges such as organized crime. The continuous support from Australia reflects a hopeful trajectory for enhancing Fiji’s law enforcement capabilities and fostering a safer community.

As Fiji moves forward with these advancements, the collaboration between Fiji and Australia exemplifies a collective effort to address shared security challenges, promoting regional stability and safety for citizens.
